Congressman Patrick Murphy represents Florida’s 18th Congressional district, which includes St. Lucie, Martin, and northern Palm Beach counties. Prior to coming to Congress, Murphy worked as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for Deloitte & Touche auditing Fortune 500 companies, before starting his own small business, Coastal Environmental Services, which specializes in disaster relief. Following the BP oil spill, Murphy spent six months in the Gulf of Mexico helping with cleanup efforts.
Born and raised in the Florida Keys, Murphy knows that the health of our environment cannot be separated from the health of our economy. Murphy continues to advocate for Everglades restoration efforts, beach renourishment, and inlet dredging projects that are not only important to protect and preserve our environment, but which have a three-to-one return on investment. One of his top priorities has been fighting for vital projects to protect the St. Lucie River and Indian River Lagoon.
In Congress, Murphy has also focused on strengthening Social Security and Medicare for current recipients and future generations, protecting women’s rights, fighting for equality, and championing our middle class.
Congressman Murphy ran for office on a pledge to get things done for this district – and he stands by that pledge, understanding that progress requires bipartisanship. Ranked as one of the most independent-voting members of Congress, Murphy is dedicated to working with members of both parties to get things done for the district, the state, and the nation.
